This week, I left behind both my umbrella and my scarf. To battle the coming winter (blustery, wet, cold), I am left a pair of mittens (snug, warm, dry). Given inexplicable night sweats writhed in sheets, I find satisfaction in spending days blustered, wet, cold—so, I will not immediately retrieve my umbrella from work, my scarf from the coffee shop. So, I will be a little like the dapper, diffident M, who shows up to class in drenched corduroy, talks about alarm clocks and smokes cigarettes.
